Biannual Dubai thread
Week after next I'm going to Dubai. I've never had a massive desire to go as I've not seen anything that attracts me to it (and when people like Andy Carroll think somewhere is classy, alarm bells ring), but I want to go everywhere and the flight and very fancy desert hotel are on points, so we're going.

As well as two nights in the desert we're having two nights in the city - currently staying in Al Seef as it looks a touch more interesting than everywhere else but I'm thinking of changing that to somewhere more central. Anyway, while I knew it was expensive to get a beer there, I didn't realise quite how expensive! Other than during the happy hours, is it possible to get a reasonably-priced drink anywhere in the evening/after dinner?

I'd be happy with a 90/10 split between abuse and advice here.....

Ta!

I don't envy you.

However, did you hear that you can now travel by train from Lisbon to Singapore? I would love to do that. I'm very fond of trains/railways.

What would a pint and a glass of wine cost me?

Who wouldn’t want to spend a week or two traveling through Russia and China right now.

Ah, it'll all blow over by the time I've collected enough 2p coins in my giant empty whisky bottle.

You can get away with sex on the beach so long as it's in a tourist bar...

Weird place. The women in hotel lobbies dress like they’re on the set of Sex in the City.

The only part I like is the old Persian merchant neighbourhood of Bastikiya. If I was going to go back I’d spend the time on the upper balcony of the XVA hotel, ignoring the rest of the city.

Then I’d quickly get on a plane to Oman.

Where wealth oozes from every pore. Well, most pores. Some superb restaurants. It's the kind of place that's good to experience once or twice so that you know what it's about and you've seen its spectacular bits, but ultimately there are more interesting places in which to splurge your hard-earned.

OTB, please do post your impressions on here when you're back home.

Went a handful of times on business. Wouldn’t want to spend my own money going there.

Don’t know why people waste their time writing travel guides when all people want to know is how much a beer costs.

Re: Biannual Dubai thread
He wasn't looking for the price of a beer, cheeseman. It's a classic "Where's the cheapest place to get a PSP in Hong Kong" Zoltaneering thread.

Or possibly negative Zoltaneering in the case of Dubai.

This OP is forever harping on about his fucking travels. Not sure whey he always wants to share it all on a football forum. He probably think thinks we're all MATES.

Manuel

I, for one, enjoy reading about people's travels.

If you don't, do you really require advice about how to avoid it?

You enjoy reading anything, you cunt.

Always thought OTB is a mammoth twat, tbf, but ok in small doses.

I like OTB , don’t know where the cheapest beer is but I’ll ask.

Manuel in case you hadn’t noticed this isn’t only a football forum but please don’t let that stop you

Re: Biannual Dubai thread
Awwww. You going to ask Jeeves? The cheapest beer is in the supermarkets, if OTB really is that stressed even after getting free flights and hotel.

The Dubai Hammers can be found on match days at Nelsons, Media Rotana, Tecom. Decently priced beer and free half time chip butties.

Re: Biannual Dubai thread
Lovejoy - Yea that was where I went. Apart from Yogib the rest were cliquey, boring, judgemental cunts harping on about their portfolio's and where they were going for brunch the next day. Not for me. The chip butty was ok though.
